Skoda has officially unveiled the new-generation 2020 Rapid in Russia, which will come to India sometime in 2021.And, it will go on sale in Q1 2020 in Russia. The new-gen Skoda Rapid is based on the MQB A0 platform. And in India, it will be based on the new localised MQB A0-In platform, which is a cost-effective derivative of MQB A0 that's built for the domestic market. 

The design of the new Skoda Rapid is completely new on both interior and exterior, and now looks more upmarket too. The new Rapid takes inspiration from the Skoda Scala hatchback and the Octavia. And, it looks like mini Octavia. The Rapid is now a notchback, the entire glass section at the back is part of the boot lid just like the Octavia. Skoda has revamped the interior design as well. It gets lot of features like LED headlamps, butterfly radiator grille, machined alloys, LED taillights, touchscreen infotainment system, multi color instrument cluster and more..

The Russian-spec Skoda Rapid gets a set of 1.6L MPI and 1.4L TSI petrol engines with a choice of manual and automatic (DSG) transmissions. In India, however, it will be offered with the 1.0-litre TSI engine from the VW Group that can be tuned to make 115PS/200Nm. And, it will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DSG automatic.
